Poetry

I like poetry, and I like to write a lot of it.  I've gotten some of it published -- don't know if it was because it was good or if it was just because they wanted me to buy the book, but hey, whatever!  Got my name in the annals, if nothing else.

I've added a few of my poems - hope you enjoy them.  I figure that having my own website is like having a captive audience, right?

If you'd like to submit some of your work, send it on and if the content works, I'll post it here.

Today's featured poem ...

The Conquistador

Blinded by the Titans hand

he drifts away from his followers,

into the waters of fear and solitude.

It is then that he realizes something ...

    True love conquers all.

Dash Speer (aged 13)

Woman-Moth

I morph
From me to moth.
Intent on mission.

I fly to the light
Beat my wings against
Lantern’s cold glass.

Frantic, frantic
I penetrate its casing
Sighing, flinging fluttering body into flame.

Wings folded, I burn, I burn, a woman-moth,
Until the me I is am no more
Ecstatic in the fire.

I Am

I am
     not the sun,
not the moon,
     not the stars,
not any one of these.

I am them all.

Untitled

The peaceful water laps the shore
as flames envelop mountainside.
of sun that rises in its pride
as o’er castle of days of lore.
Crisp breeze streams ripples on the lake
that sparkle, untouched galaxies
of stars that roam unfettered, free,
for no one, just for beauty’s sake.
A fish breaks free as if to catch
these stars that seem too far to reach,
as if to point, a lesson teach
to those who can’t attain their match.
"Ascend, break free of waters known!
Reach out to touch life’s fleeting stars.
Grasp new horizons, flames of fire
perceived by your mind’s eye alone."
Eric M. Vogt

 Longing for the Moon

Standing on all fours, ragged
Wolf’s head tilted way up
He howls hungrily
for Her.

Longing for Her beauty, radiance, and glow.
Heart crying through his voice
at Her majestic aloofness,
Longing for what could never be.

Sounds of his despair ripping through canine teeth
Guttural and forceful, telling Her
he wanted Her
For his very own.

To have her golden rays
Touch only him.
Shine on only him.
Light the way for only him.

But even as he begged for Her
in his rough wolf’s way,
He knew She would never be his,
For She, his magic molten moon,
Belonged only to God.
